Say goodbye to muddy shoes and uneven ground, and say hello to the smooth, cool feel of freshly laid concrete underfoot. Yep, that's right—Northside Community Park has completed the much-awaited concrete walking paths!

• 3,987 linear feet of concrete has been poured and is waiting for you.

• That's a whopping 20,185 square feet of concrete, people!

• You could play at least four games of soccer side by side on that. Or lay down a ton of hopscotch games. But let’s be honest, we’d rather you walk or jog on it.

The Marathoner's Dream: The full 1-mile loop for those who want to take in all the sights and sounds our beautiful park has to offer.

The Quick Escape: The 1/2-mile loop, perfect for that brisk jog or when you've got just a wee bit of time to spare.

The Sprinter’s Delight: The 1/10-mile loop. Ideal for a super-quick cardio burst or for those "I just want to stretch my legs" moments.

Each morning, the sun glistens off the new paths as more and more of our cherished neighbors (yes, you!) are spotted taking advantage of this fantastic upgrade. Whether you're an early bird catching the sunrise or a night owl watching the sunset, these paths are here to guide your steps.

So, lace up those sneakers, leash up your pups, grab a buddy, or take a solo venture! It's time to celebrate our community's latest achievement, one step at a time. And hey, if you're feeling extra edgy, maybe throw in a little dance or hopscotch as you go.

Green Beginnings

One of the core values of the Northeast Community Park is that “fresh air, soft grass, and a place to play make happy, healthy people.”

That’s why this is such an exciting update straight from the ground beneath your feet. Life is sprouting! That's right; the grass is officially on its way!

We have planted 200 pounds of grass seed, and we couldn't be happier to report that our first batch is now starting to show some promising signs of life. It may not look like much yet, but to us, it's a celebration of life, the first step towards a vibrant, green carpet that will soon cover our beloved park.

So, what's the big deal about grass sprouting, you might wonder? Well, let us tell you – it's all about the promise of what's to come. Those tiny green shoots may be small and unassuming, but they represent the beginning of something beautiful. It's a symbol of the effort, love, and care we put into making this park a better place for all of you.

We have plans – big plans. Thousands more pounds of grass seed are going to find their new home in our park in the months to come. We're talking lush, green meadows, soft and inviting under your feet, perfect for picnics, play, and relaxation. It's like a makeover for your favorite outdoor hangout, and we're thrilled to be a part of it!

Barbara Carlson: Our Bloomin' Park Superstar 🌼

We want to take a moment to shine a spotlight on someone who has been spreading joy and beauty throughout the park. Barbara Carlson is the sunshine on our flower beds, and we can't say thank you enough!

Since spring, Barbara has been a true gardening superhero, gracing us with her green thumbs twice a week – every Monday and Thursday. Armed with her own tools and a heart full of passion, she has transformed our park into a floral wonderland, one petal at a time.

Pavilion Flower Beds

From 9 AM to 2 PM, Barbara dedicates herself wholeheartedly to her mission, planting vibrant flowers around the pavilion without ever taking a break. That's five hours of non-stop gardening, folks! 🌻

But it's not just Barbara's remarkable dedication that sets her apart; it's her infectious enthusiasm and unflagging positive attitude. Rain or shine, she's here with a smile that's as radiant as the blooms she tends to. Her energy is like plant food for the soul of our park, inspiring us all to appreciate and cherish this green oasis in our neighborhood.

We often say that parks like ours are the heart of a community, and Barbara has certainly made our park beat even stronger. With every blossom that unfurls, she adds a burst of color to our lives, reminding us of the beauty that can be found in the simple act of caring for nature.

Deanna Price, owner-operator of Culver's on North Glenstone, is a remarkable community champion. Her unwavering dedication to North Springfield and support for local schools, including recent fundraisers, have made a significant impact. Supporting Local Schools

Deanna's commitment to her community shines brightly through her support for local schools. She loves Truman Elementary, Fremont Elementary, Pleasantview Elementary and Middle School, and Hillcrest High School and has hosted events and given to make a difference in the lives of students and educators.

Deanna's recent involvement in a fundraiser for the Northeast Community Park, organized by T's Disability Acceptance, is another shining example of her dedication. Together, they raised an impressive $450 to support the park's mission of inclusivity and accessibility.

T’s Disability Acceptance 5K

Emma Holdway is at it again! 🥳 She is the proud founder of “T's Disability Acceptance,” an organization striving for all things inclusion, specifically accessible, and inclusive playgrounds.

She’s come a long way in her mission, hosting events and organizing multiple fundraisers to make her dream a reality. And her biggest event of the year is just around the corner: the T's Disability Acceptance Second Annual 5k, which is happening on September 30th! 🏃‍♀️🏃‍♂️

It is almost a year away, but excitement is building in the Northeast neighborhood of Springfield as the grand opening of Northeast Community Park has officially been set. On Sunday, September 8th, 2024, we will open our gates to the public, unveiling both Phase 1 and Phase 2 of this fantastic recreational space.

Phase 1: Serene Tranquility

Phase 1 of Northeast Community Park boasts picturesque walking paths, perfect for a peaceful stroll or a refreshing jog. At its heart, a beautiful pavilion offers shade and relaxation, making it an ideal spot for picnics and gatherings. It's already becoming a go-to destination for morning walkers and those seeking a tranquil escape.

Phase 2: Sports and Fun

In Phase 2, sports enthusiasts will find a lot to love. The park features a top-notch basketball court for hoops aficionados, multiple pickleball courts to embrace the growing trend, and a thrilling sand volleyball court for beach volleyball enthusiasts.

The grand opening promises to be a joyous occasion, celebrating the unity and determination of the Northeast community.
